A university don, Dr. Jude Obasanmi has raised the alarm on the rising cases of HIV/AIDS Infections in the state.

Obasanmi who raised the alarm while making a remark during the activities to mark the 2020 World AIDS day by Josemaria Escriva Foundation at Ekpoma, pointed out that despite the continuous campaign for free HIV tests, that only few people submit themselves for testing as a result of fear of stigmatisation.

While noting that the number of new cases is on the increase, Obasanmi who's also the chief responsibility officer of Josemaria Escriva Foundation appealed to people to embrace the voluntary testing by the foundation adding that provisions have been made for counseling.

He enumerated the causes of HIV/AIDS Infections to include unprotected sex, unscreened blood during blood transfusion, sharing of unsterilised sharp objects like needles, razor blades, clippers, transmission from mother to child during child birth.

In a campaign message, the Health Educator and Chairperson, Local Action Committee on AIDS in Esan West Local Government Council; Mrs. Blessing Inegbenebor called on improved care for those affected and that those infected should ensure that they religiously take their drugs as being infected was not a death sentence.

Also speaking, the Reproductive Health Supervisor, Esan West Local Government Council, Mrs. Ruth Inegbenose called on young persons in particular, to live healthy reproductive lives as they are more vulnerable to the infection.

One of the persons who made herself available for HCT services commended the foundation for the awareness and called on all to step up the tempo of awareness creation.
