Obaseki Congratulates Atiku on Emergence As PDP Flagbearer, Calls for Unity

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Nigeria's former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on his victory at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential primary election.   In his message, the governor hailed other aspirants who submitted themselves to transparent democratic exercise that has set the PDP as a worthy example to all other political parties in the country. Asuen Floors Ex-Deputy Governor, Imasuen to Clinch Edo South APC Senatorial Ticket

By Lucky Isibor A former Edo State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, Mr. Valentine Asuen, AKA DVD on Saturday, 28 March defeated a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Lucky Imasuen to emerge the party's Senatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections. Valentine Asuen carried shoulder-high after winning the Senatorial ticket. Asuen, who is the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of DVD Oil, emerged the choice of majority of the party delegates after polling 216 votes  to the 160 votes pollee by Imasuen. The peaceful senatorial primary election exercise took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Benin (Uniben), Ugbowo campus. With the victory, Asuen will be flying the APC flag in the forthcoming general election slated for May, 2023. The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged for calm among members of the party over an Abuja High Court rule relating to the conduct of the congresses held in the state. In a statement, Chairman, Edo PDP, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, urged delegates who emerged from the congresses to remain calm as the party has appealed the judgement at the appellate court. He said, “Our attention has been drawn to an Abuja High Court ruling regarding the conduct of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses. “We call on all candidates that emerged from the exercise to remain calm as the party has appealed the judgement at the appellate court.” Aziegbemi noted, “We are certain that the exercise was conducted in line with laid down procedures and guidelines of our great party and are confident that these would be duly acknowledged by the higher court.”

Joined in the suit are the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as first and second defendants respectively. The sensitisation exercise which started on Friday, 13 May saw members of the Josemaria Escriva Foundation embark  on enlightenment campaign round markets and other public places in Ekpoma town, to sensitize the people about Lassa Fever disease. Court Restrains Edo Govt From Taking Over Oke-Oroma Community Land

By Lucky Isibor An Edo State High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the Edo State government from taking over the pieces of land belonging to Oke-Oroma Community in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area pending the determination of motion ex parte brought before it by the community. In a suit marked B/61/22 between Gaius Emokpae and five others on behalf of the people of Oke-Oroma village as Claimants/Applicants and the governor of Edo State, Attorney General of Edo State and the Edo State Geographic Information Service as Defendants, the community wanted the court to grant interim injunction to stop the defendants from “trespassing on, encroaching, bulldozing or developing” their land measuring 714.750 hectares or doing anything that was inconsistent with their rights.
