An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, has held that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy-Governorship candidate, Audu Ganiyu Abudu, presented false information to INEC in his Form EC9 to enable him contest the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State.

The case was brought against Audu Ganiyu Abudu by the Plaintiff, Hon. Sunday Kadiri, who is from the same with the APC gubernatoral running mate  in Etsako West Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State.

In a well-considered judgement by Honourable Justice Courage Ogbebor, the court nullified the candidacy of governorship candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Audu Ganiyu Abudu, in the September 19th, 2020 election.

The plaintiff had asked the court to disqualify the candidate for Deputy Governor, Ganiyu, from participating in the election on account of having allegedly given false information to the electoral commission to aid his qualification for the election.

He prayed the court to annul the candidacy of Ize-iyamu as the APC candidate for Governor on account of running with an unqualified candidate for Deputy Governor.

Reacting to the judgement,.Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, described the verdict of the court as “unfortunate and utterly wrong”.

He stated that he has already instructed my counsel to appeal against the judgement.

Ize-Iyamu expressed conviction that “the Court of Appeal will dispassionately consider the facts presented before the court”.

He aso urged APC members and his “teeming supporters to to remain calm and law abiding. Justice will surely prevail in this matter to the glory of our God”.

“I have received the news of the judgement delivered today 6th day of January 2021 by the Edo state high court sitting in Benin City disqualifying me and my running mate, Hon Gani Audu from contesting the gubernatorial election held in Edo state on 19th September 2020.

“I have already instructed my counsel to appeal against the judgement, as I am convinced that the Court of Appeal will dispassionately consider the facts presented before the court and arrive at a just decision in accordance with the law", he said.
