Edo PDP Set to Inaugurate Senatorial, Local Government Caucuses.

The Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party PDP has concluded arrangements to constitute the Caucuses of the party at the various Local Government Area and Senatorial levels. 

In an internal memo to all the Senatorial and Local Area chairmen of the party signed by the Edo State chairman of the party, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemin and made available to newsmen urged them to furnish the state headquarters of the party with the list of proposed members of the caucuses. 

The memo which emphasised  the supremacy of the PDP constitution urged the chairmen to ensure that they comply with the relevant provisions of the constitution in the composition of the caucuses.

Aziegbemin who said that the decision to constitute the caucuses was sequel to interactions the State Working Committee of the party had with elders, leaders and other groups within the party, appealed to members to ensure the constitution of the party is adhered to in all their dealings adding that they should feel free to contact members of the State Working Committee when there is conflict. 

"We have had cause to interact with many of our leaders, party chairmen as well as supporters across the state. 

"Consequently, it has become imperative to state as follows, the PDP has a constitution 2017 as amended, the supreme document that dictates and determines the various organs, it’s composition, it’s functions and roles. The constitution of the party is clear on the administrative and decision making organs of the party ( see Chapters 4 and 5 of the party constitution 2017 as amended)

"No other body is known to the constitution.

"It is our belief that these organs of the party as enshrined in the party constitution must be empowered and given unwavering  support devoid of any external consideration. 

"There exist at the senatorial level, two organs which are recognized by our constitution, the senatorial executive committee ( an elected body ) and the senatorial district caucus( an advisory body). We hereby ask all senatorial chairmen and local government party chairmen to send a list of their proposed caucus to the State Secretariat for approval before its inauguration. (The Caucus is an advisory body and its composition is detailed in the constitution).


While appealing to party leaders to always act in the best interest of the party, the memo gave a thumbs up to the State Working Committee for its achievements since it was elected last year.


"As we strengthen our party institutions, we ask our party leaders to always act in the best interest of the party. When there is a conflict, they should bring it to the attention of the state working committee.

"In a few weeks time, it will be the first of four anniversaries of the swearing in of the executives from Ward, LGA, Senatorial to the State level. The Congress that brought us in was keenly contested, backed by our constitution and conducted by the appropriate authorities appointed from the national secretariat and supervised by all relevant bodies, including INEC, DSS, police etc. 

"We are proud of what we have achieved in our first year. We can do more", the memo added.

Edo State Anti- Cultism Taskforce Arrests 11 Suspects, to Face Prosecution

The Edo State Special Anti-Cultism Task Force  on Wednesday in Benin City, the Edo State capital, paraded 11 persons suspected to be involved in cultitism in the State, pointing out that the operation that led to their arrest is giving effect to the attainment of the Edo State guidelines of zero tolerance for cults and cultism  related crimes in the state adding that more would be done within the ambit of the law to stamp out cultism from the state such that there would not be any hiding place for cultists in the state. The taskforce headed by the Department of State Services (DSS) was created by the Governor Obaseki-led state government in response to increasing cult killings which had claimed many youthful lives across the state. Edo 2024: Consensus Christian Leaders Forum Holds Prayer Session

By Lucky Isibor Ahead the Edo State 2024 governorship election, the Consensus Christian Leaders Forum (CCLF) is to hold a prayer session on Saturday, 10 February to seek the face of God to lead Edo people aright to choose a God fearing Governor on 21 September. In a release by the leader of CCLF, Archbishop Fred Aghedo stated that the prayer session with the theme "Where is Edo of our dream", and called on Edo people to join the group in the prayers to seek the face of God and pray for the realisation of the Edo of our dream.
