Esan Magazine Honours Three Esan Sons With Award of Excellence.
The management of Esan Magazine Thursday, 25 March honoured three prominent sons of Esan land to mark its 35th anniversary on the news stand.
Welcoming the awardees and guests to the award ceremony which held at Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Press Centre in Benin City, the Publisher/Editor-in-chief of Esan Magazine, Mr. Peter Iwelomen said there could not be a better time to honour the award recipients than during the celebration of the magazine's 35th anniversary.
While noting that Esan land parades men and women who can hold their own any where in the world, Iwelomen said personalities like Chief Anthony Enahoro, Prof. Ambrose Alli, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, Chief Tony Anenih, Chief Tom Ikimi and many others had their roots from Esan land.
While listing the award recipients as Dcn. (Dr.) Vincent Agenmonmen, Chief (Dr.) Leemon Ikpea and Chief, (Engr.) Patrick Anegbe, Iwelomen commended the spirit of hard work, resilience, determination, humility, independence and adherence to rules and ethics of the Esan man, noting that the qualities are some of the factors that qualified the awardees for the award.
He commended the awardees for using their hard earned resources to contribute to societal development adding that Esan Magazine believes that men and women who deserved honour should be honoured in their life time and not post humously.
Earlier in his opening remark, chairman on the occasion, the chairman of Edo State Council of the NUJ, Sir Roland Osakue said it is only wise to honour those who have tirelessly worked for their community and the country in general.
The guest speaker at the event, Dr. Osakpolor Omorogeva who spoke on the topic, "The Youth: Necessity for Hardwork and Determination", said there was no option to hard work in life. He also emphasised that no profession was common and therefore enjoined the youths to have a good plan at their early stage in life.
He said the reason the awardees were being honoured was due to their hard work and success.
In their separate responses, the awardees expressed their gratitude to the publisher, Mr. Peter Iwelomen for deeming it fit to recognise and honour them for their contribution to humanity.
The special guest of honour at the award ceremony and former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mike Ehizokhae who also represented Decn. Agenmomen at the event, eulogised the publisher and crew of Esan Magazine for using the tabloid to awaken the consciousness of Esan people to the need to develop their homeland.
Highlight of the event was presentation of the award to the recipients.
