Foundation Urges Edo State Govermenmet to Recruit Teachers into Primary Schools.

The Chief Responsibility Officer of Josemaria Escriva Foundation (JOSEF), Dr. Jude Obasanmi has appealed to the Edo State govermenmet to recruit more teachers into primary schools to meet Governor Obaseki's vision of totally revamping primary education in the state.

Dr. Obasanmi who made the appeal in his opening remarks at the flag-off of the 2021 Teachers for Effective Service Delivery (TESD) in Esan West Local Government Area organised by Josemaria Escriva Foundation, said the number of primary school teachers in the state was grossly inadequate and thanked Edo State Universal Basic Education Board for approving the project.

The Teachers Effective Service Delivery is financed by the TY Danjuma Foundation and implemented by Josemaria Escriva Foundation, a Non- Govermenmetal Organisation (NGO) with thematic area in the education and health sector.  The TY Danjuma Foundation had earlier supported JOSEF to implement STED in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.

While enumarating the objectives of the STED programme, Dr. Obasanmi thanked the TY Danjuma Foundation for it's support which includes the provision of instruments for the construction of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs), which will be given to the benefiting schools at the end of the training.

"The project was a fallout of a baseline survey conducted in Esan West LGA. The goal of the TESD project is to improve the quality of teaching and learning in 20 Public Primary Schools in Esan West LGA by 2022 through the design and use of TLMs. During the 10 months intervention, there would be practical sessions and assessment of the teachers. At the end of the project, materials for constructing Teaching and Learning Materials would be given to the schools courtesy of TY Danjuma Foundation", Dr. Obasanmi said.

In his remarks, the chairman of the board of trustees of JOSEF, Prof. M. A. Izibili, thanked the TY Danjuma Foundation for availing teachers in Esan West Local Government Area the opportunity to attend the seminar and learn how to construct  TLMs. 
Prof. Izibili enjoined the teachers selected in Esan West to take all the components of the programme serious as they stand to benefit enomously.


In a good will message, the Esan West Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comr. J.E. Omonhe commended the initiative which she said was a step in the right direction to bring about effective service delivery amongst teachers in Esan West. She pledge the support of the Local Government Area  chapter of NUT to help in the realization of the project goal and objectives.

Also speaking, TY Danjuma Foundation State Officer, Ms. Tomi Ajayi, commended JOSEF for successfully implementing all projects funded by TY Danjuma Foundation. She disclosed that TY Danjuma Foundation  is a grant making organization with focus on health and education adding that they have supported series of activities in Edo State including training of both primary and secondary school teachers, renovation of hospitals, free eye checks and provision of eye glasses, promoting girl child education, renovation of libraries amongst others. 

While pledging the committment of the TY Danjuma Foundation to closely monitor the implementation of the project,  Ms. Ajayi urged the teachers to adequately put into practice all that they would be taught.

In his remarks, the Head of Service of  Esan West LGA represented by the Council's Director of Administration, Pastor Henry  Ewoigbokhan, commended TY Danjuma Foundation and JOSEF for making Esan West to benefit from the intervention. He pledged the full support of the Council management to ensure that the project is fully implemented for the benefit of all.

Inaugurating the 40 benefiting teachers into the programme, Prof (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ifidon, a member of JOSEF board of trustees and former Liberian, Abmrose Alli University, Ekpoma, enjoined the benefiting teachers take the project seriously as it would help them in further shaping the future of young learners just as the teachers took a solemn pledge to put in their best.
