CSOs Urged to be Honest in their Dealings With Donor Agencies.
By Lucky Isibor.
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have been admonished to be honest in their dealings with donor agencies especially in the development of proposals for programme fundings.
The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Technical Support Lead for Adolescent and Youth Reproductive Health (AYSRH) for Edo State, Dr. Emomena Bernard who gave the admonishion at a one day training for Advocacy Core Group (ACG) and media forum on Resource Mobilisation and Proposal Development noted that donors and Organisations are not obliged to fund projects and programme for CSOs adding that such support must be earned.
According to Dr. Emomena, "Organisations are not obliged to give you support, they must earn it and what will make them buy into your proposal is what you put forward, what will be in tandem with the interest of those you're soliciting support from".
While enumarating the issues that will enhance successful resource mobilisation, Emomena urged participants to put in a lot of work and devote more time adding that "organisations should be well prepared, ensure your resource mobilisation efforts are alligned with your organisation mission, objectives and stategic plan, and understand the needs of your coverage area; what works which are evidence based.
Coordinator, ACG, Edo State.
He urged participants to realise that their organisation's performance today impacts their ability to generate resources tomorrow, adding that "whatever you do well today will enhance your ability to raise funds tomorrow."
In his presentation on proposal development, coordinator of ACG, Dr. Jude Obasanmi tasked CSOs and participants on the inclusion of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plan on their proposal and add all the relevant Basic documents evidencing the existence of the organisation, such as certificate of registration, curriculum vitae if not expressly stated in the Request for Proposal, (RfP) while paying attention to donor requirements.
Dr. Obasanmi who is also the Chief Responsibility Officer of Josemaria Escriva Foundation, a member of the Advocacy Core Group (ACG) also drilled participants on their organisational capacity statement and counselled that they should input their capability to perform the technical, managerial and administrative functions required in the procurement.
