Pardon 14 Runaway Law Makers, Ize-Iyamu Begs Obaseki.

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has appealed to the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to pardon the 14 absentee  APC  members- elect in the 2019 Edo State House of Assembly election and opt for out of court settlement.


The appeal comes barely 48 hours after APC lost its bid to prove alleged certificate forgery suit against the Governor who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the governorship election at the Supreme Court.


The members-elect who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 are Vincent Uwadiae, Ovia North-East II; Ugiagbe Dumez, Ovia North-East I; Washington Osifo, Uhunmwode; Victor Edoror, Esan Central; Kingsley Ugabi, Etsako East and Michael Ohio-Ezomo, Owan West, were unavailable for inauguration when the 7th Assembly was proclaimed on June 17, 2019 by the Governor.


Also affected members-elect whose seats had been declared vacant by the leadership of the Assembly, are Sunday Aghedo, Ovia South-West; Chris Okaeben, Oredo West; Crosby Eribo, Egor; Aliyu Oshiomhole, Etsako West II; Oshomah Ahmed, Etsako Central and Ganiyu Audu, Etsako West I alongside two Lawmakers, Mr. Uyi Ekhosuehi and Mr. Eric Okaka representing Oredo East and Owan East Constituency for failing to meet the mandatory 180 sitting days as enshrined in the Constitution.


Ize-Iyamu in a congratulatory letter to the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and made available to newsmen on Monday, also pleaded with the Governor to intervene in the issue of elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice-chairmen, Councilors and Supervisory Councillors, who sometime ago, were suspended and removed from office.

“Having said that, I want to appeal to you to kindly consider the pertinent issues of the 14 Constituencies, including the two in your Local Government – Oredo and the two in your deputy’s Local Government – Etsako West, that are presently without representation at the Edo State Assembly. Though the matter is in court, you are in a vantage position to consider an out-of-court settlement of the issue, in the overall interest of our state.

“Your Excellency would also do well to intervene in the issue of elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice-chairmen, Councilors and Supervisory Councillors, who sometime ago, were suspended and removed from office. Our appeal is that you consider paying them their entitlements since it is now late for them to return to their offices. This can also be through the out of court settlement.

“Last Friday’s judgement of the Supreme Court, puts an end to the series of litigations we had over last year’s governorship elections.

Ostensibly advancing reasons for instituting the alleged certificate forgery case which failed in all the nation's courts, Ize-Iyamu said, “For the records, Your Excellency, your supporters had instituted thirteen (13) different pre-election cases against my deputy and I; all seeking to disqualify us from participating in the election. On our part, our party, the APC had only one case against Your Excellency and your party.

“Our appeal is that you consider paying them their entitlements since it is now late for them to return to their offices. This can also be through the out of court settlement”, Ize-Iyamu said.

Edo State Anti- Cultism Taskforce Arrests 11 Suspects, to Face Prosecution

The Edo State Special Anti-Cultism Task Force  on Wednesday in Benin City, the Edo State capital, paraded 11 persons suspected to be involved in cultitism in the State, pointing out that the operation that led to their arrest is giving effect to the attainment of the Edo State guidelines of zero tolerance for cults and cultism  related crimes in the state adding that more would be done within the ambit of the law to stamp out cultism from the state such that there would not be any hiding place for cultists in the state. The taskforce headed by the Department of State Services (DSS) was created by the Governor Obaseki-led state government in response to increasing cult killings which had claimed many youthful lives across the state. Edo 2024: Consensus Christian Leaders Forum Holds Prayer Session

By Lucky Isibor Ahead the Edo State 2024 governorship election, the Consensus Christian Leaders Forum (CCLF) is to hold a prayer session on Saturday, 10 February to seek the face of God to lead Edo people aright to choose a God fearing Governor on 21 September.
