The Okaijesan of Esanland also used the media briefing to appeal to Esan people to champion the revival of the culture and tradition of Esan people and ensure that Esan language which is their identity does not go into extinction.
While pointing out that speaking Esan language is not a sign of stupidity or illitracy, the Ojirrua of Irrua paid glowing tributes to the efforts of late Dr. Christopher Okojie in the revival of Esan language and urged Esan traditional rulers and well meaning Esan sons and daughters to continue from where he stopped.
"Those of our people who are now in Lagos, Ibadan and other places, their children cannot speak Esan language. It looks like a shame on us.
"It is very important to maintain the tradition and culture of our people, and our language show where you come from, if you're Igbo man, Yoruba man. But the Esan people feel ashamed to speak Esan language because they feel if they speak Esan language they would be regarded as stupid, which is not."
