JONAPWD Commend Obaseki for Assent to Disability Bill

The Edo State chapter of Joint National Association of Persons With Disability (JONAPWD) has commended Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for signing into law the Edo State Disability Law.
In a telephone interview, the president of the Edo State chapter of JONAPWD, Miss Anne Ojugo members of the association in Edo State are so excited about the law and thanked Governor signing the bill into law.

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has last Wednesday, 2 November signed into law the Edo State Disability Bill. The law vests in the government the responsibility for the protection of education, Health care, and social, economic, cultural, civil and political Rights of persons with Disabilites in Edo State.
Anne Ojugo, while noting that with the new law persons with disabilities will be able to raise their shoulder high, she pointed out that it will stamp out discremination against persons with disabilities and stop their segregation from other members of the society.
According to Ojugo, "we are very grateful to Edo State government for giving succour to people with disabilities in Edo State, because this law is protecting the interest of people with disabilities.
"With this law, people with disabilities will be able to raise their head high, no more discrimination, no more segregation. They'll be able to go to school because the government have some responsibilities to carry out for people with disabilities like free education, free health care, parking lots will now be reserved for people with disabilities in all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, public buildings will be accessible because ramps will now be provided. In terms of employment, five percent will be reserved for people with disabilities and a commission will be set to care for people with disabilities."
