2023 Elections: Be Law Abiding, Benin Elders Urge Nigerians
Sensing the uneasiness in the Nigeria’s body polity, following the spiraling disagreements about the recently held presidential and national assembly elections, the Committee of Benin Elders, has reviewed the current situation nationwide and urged Nigerians to continually abide by the law and live peacefully with their neighbours.
The call was made through a press statement issued in Benin City, the Edo State capital, by General Godwin O. Abbe (rtd) and Dr. Omorefe Asemota, Chairman and Secretary, respectively of the respected body of the elderly.
“The Committee wishes to appeal to everyone We urge our people to discharge their civic duties by going out massively to vote according to the dictates of their conscience in the forthcoming elections slated for Saturday the 11th of March, 2023”, the statement quoted.
The group also appealed to the relevant establishments at the national and state levels, to remain neutral and to provide the needed environment for democracy and elections to thrive, thus giving the hints that it is the only means that brings about the sanctity of the rule of law and a just society where lives and property are safe.
The statement further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to be truly independent and impartial and to follow the electoral laws strictly, to deliver credible election outcomes, which would instill the confidence of the Nigerian public and the international community.
