Edo 2024, Dorry Okojie and Infrastructure in Focus

By Lucky Isibor

The provision of infrastructures is the pivot on which the development of any modern nation, state or community revolves. The development in a country or subregion is the function of the infrastructures provided by the government for the production of goods and services in the nation or subregion.

It is in the realization of this pivotal role infrastructures play in development that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 is termed "build resilience infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation".

The United Nations realises the roles infrastructures, which are tangible; such as roads, bridges, railways, power generating plants, ports, and the intangible infrastructures which are human capital in the form of schools, health and social services play in human development, hence goal 9 is dedicated to it.

That emphasis is now laid on those with knowledgeable background on the provision and maintenance of public infrastructures to mount governance saddle in national and subnational governments.

Against this backdrop,   the call on Dr. Dorry Afe Efosa Okojie to run for the office of Governor of Edo State in 2024 is apt and timely.

Dr. Dorry Okojie has a very excellent knowledge of the provision and maintenance of public infrastructures as the Chief Executive Officer of Safegate Integrated Concepts Ltd, one of the companies in his conglomerates solely dedicated to building and road construction, provision of electrical facilities among others. He's also the Chief Executive Officer of DAF Homes & Estates, a leading construction and estate development company in Lagos.

When voted as Governor of Edo State, Dorry Okojie, being a provider of these facilities , he will hit the ground running   immediately on assumption of office unlike someone who has less than a tangential knowledge in this all important field.

The provision of infrastructures by state governments in Nigeria will become more challenging from the year 2024 as a result of the removal of provision of power and some other infrastructures from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent legislative list in the Nigerian constitution in the last constitutional amendment; with state governments now to play leading roles in the provision of electricity  for their people.

These are the reasons all well meaning Edo people should join the voice of reason in supporting  Dr. Dorry Okojie's drive   to contest the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
