Ekpoma Forum Condemns Contractor's Refusal to Resume Work on Benin-Abuja Road

By Lucky Isibor

The Concerned Ekpoma Emminent Stakeholders Forum (CEESF), has condemned the failure to commence work on the Ekpoma section of the Benin-Abuja Highways despite release of money to Dantata &Sowae, the contracting firm. The furum noted that the federal government revealed to its delegation during a recent visit to the Federal Ministry of Works that the contractor has been mobilised to resume work on the road.
The Concerned Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum made the observation at its meeting held Thursday, 30 March at Ekpoma and resolved to send a delegation of  CEESF to pay Dantata and Sawoe a visit at their  base in Avielle within the next one week for an engagement with the project engineer.

The meeting  of  the forum which was presided over by the Convener, Dr. Jude Obasanmi observed that heavy duty trucks have started passing through Ekpoma township roads in a bid to avoid the failed Benin-Abuja high way, adding that information available to it shows that the action was allegedly being aided by some security agents and community youths. The Forum then resolved to engage the Esan West Local Government Area Council Liaison Officer to urgently call a meeting of all community chiefs, youth heads, security agencies and all other relevant stakeholders to holistically look at the issue and proffer solutions.
The forum also emphasised the urgent need to rehabilitate the barricades earlier erected by it to guide against heavy duty trucks entering and destroying the township roads.

The epileptic power situation in Ekpoma  was reviewed with particular reference to the estimated bills being charged costumers, failure to erect fallen electric poles  at Iruekpen and the express way and directed the steering committee to meet with the Head of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Ekpoma to address these concerns, so that the disruption in electricity supply to Ekpoma that  happened four years ago can be avoided.

The Forum also deliberated on the security and fuel supply situations at Ekpoma and gave kudos to security agencies in the university town for the improved security in the area, while condemning some petroleum products marketers who are selling the products at exorbitant price. The forum mandated the steering committee to call on the  Liason Officer to convey a meeting of  the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), head of vigilante  group, Okada riders union  leaders, to review the security situation and device strategies to checkmate the  activities of groups extorting money from motor bike riders.

Concerned Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum was convened by  Dr. Jude Obasanmi with members cutting across  the various communites in Ekpoma, comprising of indegenes and non indegenes.
