A Benin High Court presided over by Honourable Justice Geraldine Imhadegbeloh has remanded one Sunday Efoghe to the Oko Custodian Centre for alleged sexual exploitation of a fourteen year old girl (name withheld).
The said Sunday Efoghe was charged to the Court by the Benin Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) in charge No. B/CD/931M/23 in a two count charge of "Procurement for Sexual exploitation contrary to section 16(1) of the trafficking in persons (prohibition) enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 and Procurement for pornographic performance contrary to section 12 of the trafficking in persons (prohibition) enforcement and Administration Act 2015".

The Court  granted a Motion Exparte brought  by Victoria Oburo (Esq), on behalf of NAPTIP praying the Court to remand the respondent in Correctional Centre pursuant to section 293 (2) and (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Edo State, 2016.

The Court also granted the prayer  for an order granting the detection of the respondent in Nigeria Correctional Centre, pending the conclusion of the investigation of the offence of Human Trafficking against the Respondent.

It was reported to the NAPTIP that one Sunday Efoghe was sexually exploiting a 19 year old girl since 2018 when she was 14 and subsequently used her for pornographic performance and uploaded the phonographic video into the Internet.

It was also reported that during the period of sexual exploitation of the victim, she was forced to go into oath of allegiance to the sexual exploitation of the said Sunday Efoghe and that she will be faithful to her exploiter while her exploiter can have intimacy with his wife.
It was further reported that the victim was forced to procure abortion on three occasions by the said Sunday Efoghe and that the wife took her for the abortions.

The case was adjourned to 10 May for mention.

Recall that the Director General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, recently ordered intense surveillance and undercover operations against sexploitation with a view to arresting the perpetrators and make them face the full wrath of the law.
