The security of a state or a sub regional enclave such as Edo State, in a country, is the absence of threats to acquired values, the absence of fear that such values will be attacked. It is shared freedom from fear and want; the freedom to live in dignity.

Today, the threat of insecurity is real as there is increasing capacity of non state actors to unleash violence on the populace unchallenged, just as the formation of organised criminal gangs are on the increase and sometimes encouraged by a segment of the society. 

There are also the challenge posed by systematic drivers of insecurity, such as economic inequalities, marginalisation and political exclusion. 

As observed, how many persons have the freedom to live in dignity in the last few years in the face of insecurity in Edo State and other states in the country? A man cannot be living in dignity when the women and girls in his community are being raped, while the men are kidnapped. 

These novel dynamics have placed additional burden on Edo people to take a closer look at those who wish to govern them from 2024 with a view to searching for that individual with the potential to secure them and their acquired values, ensure equity in economic opportunities and ensure no section of the state is marginalised in the authoritative allocation of resources. 

This is where Dr. Dorry Afe Efosa Okojie comes to mind as Edo State search for a Governor ahead the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Governor in 2024.

Dr. Dorry Okojie, who understands the imperative of security in a modern state and at the sub-regional level, single handedly established the Edo Central Security Network code named "Esan Atanakpa".
