Foundation Commences Training of 1,500 Teachers in Edo Central

The Josemaria Escriva Foundation (JOSEF),has commenced the training of 1,500 public schools teachers in Esan West and Esan Central Local Government Areas of Edo State under the "Edo Teachers Enhancement Project 2023".

The Chief Responsibility Officer (CRS) of Josemaria Escriva Foundation, Dr. Jude Obasanmi who stated this at the flag off of the training programme at Ekpoma Tuesday, disclosed that the project which is being funded by the TY Danjuma Foundation will be training three hundred teachers annually including Learning Development Officers (LDOs), Quality Assurance (QA) and Heads of School Support System in the next five years.
Obasanmi pointed out that the Edo Teachers Enhancement Project 2023 is a continuation of the foundation's previous capacity building for public school teachers where one hundred and ten teachers from ninety public primary schools in AKoko Edo, Esan West and Esan Central Local Government Areas were trained on the design and effective use of teaching aids and learning materials (TLM). He noted that the results have been encouraging as according to him there is increase in learners' assimilation, retention and enthusiasm in the four years the project lasted.
Obasanmi also disclosed that the TY Danjuma Foundation also assisted JOSEF in the implementation of other programmes in the education sector such as the "Addressing the Dropout Syndrome Amongst Secondary School Girls in Imoga Community of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Through Enhanced Education, Mentoring and Entrepreneurship, Implementation of Educational Intervention"; Learners Learn at Home" project where one thousand and two hundred children in Esan West and Akoko Edo Local Government Areas were reached with educational materials during the COVID 19 lock down, including those without internet accessibility.
In her remarks, representative of TY Danjuma Foundation, Ms. Tomi Ajayi, expressed satisfaction with the execution of the previous skills training programme for the teachers by JOSEF, noting that, "The Foundation is committed to support local NGOs in the areas of maternal health, eye care and education".
While thanking the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board for finding the foundation a worthy partner, Ms Ajayi assured the foundation will ensure it does not fall short of expectations and appealed to the participants to take the training seriously so as to have value for the funds being expended on the project.
The Liaison Officer of Esan West Local Government Area Council, Hon Friday Amediamen said that he was happy to identify with JOSEF in his few months in the Council.
While recalling the various educational and health interventions of the Foundation, Amediamen appealed for more and promised to support the programme to achieve its objectives.
In a remark, the Education Secretary, Esan Central Local Government Area, Mrs Oni-Idialu Esther, commended JOSEF and TY Danjuma Foundation for bringing the project to the area and promised to render the required support in line with the project approval from SUBEB. She also appealed to the participants to see the project as another addition to all the positive reforms of SUBEB.
The chairman, Board of Trustees of JOSEF, Prof. Matthew Izibili, assured that there will be series of trainings for the trainers (LDOs) and teachers to cover the areas of writing and communication skills development, pedagogy skills/montessori method, classroom, time and tress management.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Solomon Irehobhude, commended JOSEF and for the project and hoped that all the objectives will be met and thanked SUBEB for the opportunity.
Josemaria Escriva Foundation (JOSEF) is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) with thematic areas in education, health and policy advocacy that has been intervening in in the developmental challenges in Edo Central and Edo North and Edo South Senatorial Districts.
